Phoenix PVC windows made from 100 % recycled material

PHOENIX

100 % recycled profile series for windows and doors

For years, Deceuninck has been committed to a sustainable future. Our recycling plant is the largest in the Benelux and can recycle up to 45,000 tonnes of plastic a year. This is equivalent to 2.3 million old windows.

These ambitions, combined with a continuous commitment to the long life of our products, today result in a new range of 100% recycled window and door profiles. This way Deceuninck is prepared for a future in which the use of recycled materials is maximised as a standard.

"With Phoenix, we are launching our first profiles that are made of 100 % recycled plastic. Like a phoenix rising from its own ashes, this range represents the rebirth of old materials into new ones.

The inexhaustible strength of PVC

The use of PVC really started to take off in most European countries in the 1980s. Assuming that the lifespan of an installation is about 35 years, it is expected that the inflow of post-consumer PCV will significantly increase in the years to come.

PVC can be recycled up to ten times without affecting its mechanical properties. With a lifespan of at least 35 years, the total life cycle of PVC materials is at least 350 years.

To save these materials from going to landfill or being incinerated, Deceuninck has launched recovery programmes across Europe. This way we collect used PVC which can be processed into new profiles at our plant after recycling. As a result, Deceuninck has become the biggest recycler of rigid plastic in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Recycling PVC requires 90 % less energy than producing new raw materials

At Deceuninck, we already started recycling in 2012. At that time, we commissioned a high-tech recycling line at our compounding site in Diksmuide. In 2018, we quadrupled our recycling capacity to 45,000 tonnes of plastic or 2.3 million old windows per year. The recycling line aims to qualitatively process the increasing flow of post-industrial and post-consumer plastic into new raw material. The line is equipped with the most modern recycling techniques that can also recycle glass fibre, among other things.

Elegant series as the basis

Our Elegant profile series forms the basis of the Phoenix series. The Elegant Infinity design for windows and doors was selected for implementation in 100% recycled plastic.

A minimalist recessed design combined with angular geometry on the outside and inside. The profiles have a Forthex-reinforced frame with a steel reinforced wing. The central gasket optimises wind and water tightness.

Erste Projekte aus den Niederlanden

In the Netherlands, the aim is to have all public procurement carried out with recycled materials by 2023. By 2030, they want to have halved the CO2 consumption in the construction industry, in order to have fully circular construction by 2050. It is therefore no coincidence that the first Phoenix projects were realised in the Netherlands.

For example, at the beginning of 2021, the Aloysius Foundation school in Eindhoven was equipped with Phoenix windows. The 30 windows for the school's inner courtyard were made entirely from 100 % recycled PVC.  Window manufacturer Ploeg Kozijnen also relied on Phoenix windows for the renovation of its headquarters.
